Last summer vacation, it was my first time to wash pork ribs, the blood smell and greasy fat made me sick, because it reminded me of menstruation. Then a thought just pop up in my mind, the moment a girl matures, she will have to deal with blood and pain for a lifetime. I know this is our physical destiny, and because of this summer experience, I start to think about what is a women.

Simone Beauvoir's "Second Sex", which opens with the question: What is a woman? Just like when we were born, the hallmark of a boy or girl is his / her reproductive organs. There is nothing else than this (maybe the boy's skeleton will be more angular in the later growth process), does the word "woman" itself have no meaning?Whether we are men or women, we should all be regarded as people.

 

It is difficult to define that what is a women. Each history stage has different women images, great or ordinary. But all of women have one common, it’s the inescapable physiological fate - menstruation, pregnant - which brings indescribable painful, uncomfortable and also some exiting feelings. While, just because of these feelings that women have to suffer from,  they give women a different characteristics from man. In this project, I will discuss the four characteristics of women, which are based on their physical destiny: the perspective of women's love for external beauty, the perspective of women's two selves, the perspective of women mixing fantasy with reality, the perspective of women has a more profound feeling on all life. I set menstruation as the example and combined with mine and other women’s experience, exploring our feelings, thoughts and extension influence like behavior, mind in our daily life. I want to have a new, more specific and common understanding of women. And I am not from the perspective of criticizing society's established concepts of women, but from a more basic perspective - women's common physiological destiny - to discuss the characteristics of women and what is a woman.

 

The project is mainly in the form of video. If there is a physical space, it will be an interactive installation, and people can write their thoughts in the gallery or record their voices to supplement the work.

西蒙娜·波伏娃的《第二性生活》以一个问题开头：什么是女人？就像我们出生时一样，男孩或女孩的标志是他/她的生殖器官。没有别的了（也许男孩的骨骼在后期的成长过程中会比较棱角分明），难道“女人”这个词本身就没有意义吗？无论我们是男人还是女人，都应该被视为人。

 

很难定义什么是女人。每个历史阶段都有不同的女性形象，伟大的或平凡的。但所有的女人都有一个共同点，那就是不可避免的生理宿命——月经、怀孕——带来难以言喻的痛苦、难受，还有一些令人心碎的感觉。而正是因为女性不得不承受的这些感受，它们赋予了女性与男性不同的特征。在这个项目中，我将讨论女性的四个特征，它们基于她们的身体命运：女性对外在美的热爱视角、女性两个自我视角、女性幻想与现实混合视角、女性视角对所有生命都有更深刻的感受。我以月经为例，结合我和其他女性的经历，探索我们的感受、思想和延伸影响，如行为、思想在日常生活中的影响。我想对女性有一个新的、更具体、更普遍的理解。而且我不是从批判社会对女性的既定观念的角度出发，而是从更基本的角度——女性共同的生理命运——来讨论女性的特点和女性是什么。

该项目以视频形式为主。如果有实体空间，那就是互动装置，人们可以在画廊里写下自己的想法，或者录下自己的声音来补充作品。
